Installation of critical infrastructure in Edmonton, Alberta, Iron Horse installed over 8,500 lineal feet of dual 6-inch HDPE collection lines at a depth of 35 feet below ground surface. The collection system was backfilled with an engineered backfill to surface and consisted of 8 custom designed and engineered sumps. Each sump was inserted with the IHT8000 One pass trencher and released feeding the dual 6-inch line for each collection trench.

Mosaic was in the process of extending a Gypsum Stack at the New South Whales facility in Florida. Mosaic designed over 12,000 feet of 8 inch corrugated engineered backfill collection trench to mitigate ground water seepage into the gypsum stack extension. The perimeter trenches where divided into 8 individual sumps that overlapped for a 100% perimeter seal. The sumps where designed and fabricated by Iron Horse. Iron Horse dewatered suspect areas to safely stabilize the working platform.

Direct Burry

Installation of approximately 3,000 linear feet of drain tile twenty feet below ground surface at Fort McMurray to mitigate tailing dike seepage. One of the main concerns for Tailing Dikes is control of the seepage. Iron Horse installed direct bury socked drainage tile at depths of twenty feet with no open excavation to direct the seepage to a desired location. The “One-Pass” technology provides a safe construction method with no open trenches or open excavation and the integrity of the dike structure is maintained throughout the construction of the trench. Iron Horse performed the work within a spatially constrained footprint on the side of the tailing dike therefore making the project cost effective and efficient for the client. Conventional excavation would have required significantly more time and cost due to the slope and sand dike.

Iron Horse served as a general contractor for Gibsons Energy for the installation of six designed and custom fabricated sumps. Six trenches where installed for the collection of impacted ground water for treatment. Each sump was out fitted with a submersible pump on a float system directed to a treatment facility. Over 1,500 feet of collection trench was installed at various depths ranging from 15 to 25 feet deep. T

Soil Bentonite Cutoff Wall

Iron Horse was engaged by Arcadis for the installation of a soil Bentonite wall to control ground water on former aerospace facility. Depth of wall was 40 feet 24 inch's wide. The cut-off wall was placed 15 feet into a fractured layer of rock and keyed in 3 feet of bedrock. The specified hydraulic conductivity for the cut off wall was k £ 1×10-7 cm/sec. An extensive quality control program was implemented and developed on site.

Iron Horse Trenching was hired by for a confidential client site in Mid West United States to install one ZVI permeable reactor barrier walls via one pass trenching at a Hazwoper Site. The ZVI treatment barrier was approximately 20 linear feet below ground surface and keyed into the lower confining layer formation by 1 foot. The PRB pilot wall was installed in a high-water table along the property border in order to prevent the contaminants of concern from migrating offsite Challenges and Solutions Site Location. There was an extensive water mitigation plan which involved dewatering and treatment of the site before installation of the PRB.

Iron Horse Trenching was hired by Jacobs Engineering Group Inc for a confidential client site in South Eastern United States to install two pilot scale permeable reactor barrier walls via one pass trenching at a Hazwoper Site requiring Level B personnel protective equipment. Each treatment barrier was approximately 20 linear feet below ground surface and keyed into the lower bedrock formation by 1 foot. An air sparge high-density polyethylene line was installed near the bottom of each trench and then backfilled with treatment media using single pass technology. The PRB pilot wall was installed along the property border in order to prevent the contaminants of concern from migrating offsite Challenges and Solutions Site Location.
